Shooting
Within the ATC there are loads of different opportunities for shooting.
I started my rifle training in October 2007, after I finished my training on the No.8 .22. I did a weapons handing test, which consists of answering four questions about things to do with misfires, and the reasons for the round to be pushed in until you feel pressure back. Then the second part of the test is practical.
I have been shooting 4 times and on the fourth time shooting I obtained my squadron marksman which is how well you're grouping, you have to score over 75. You receive a badge for marksman, which looks like a rifle.
Since I started shooting at cadets, my dad purchased an air rifle and helped me with grouping practise. This gave me confidence to go for my marksman. I really enjoy shooting and hope to go for the wing marksman.

Hello I'm Corporal Hill and I have been with the A.T.C. just under 2 years and one of my favorite activities is shooting, so thats what I'm going to talk about!
I first started shooting with my uncle; before I joined the A.T.C.; with shotguns, .22 rifles and pistols so I was already into shooting.
I started the training for the no 8 .22 rifle which is the first rifle you train and shoot on and I have obtained a marksmans badge on this rifle !YIPPIE!
Soon after this I was selected for a National Smallbore Rifle Association Proficiency along with Cadets Bailey and Luke and Corporal Arnold. We went every Thursday evening, where we learnt about the air rifle laws, firing positions and all the strategies. We then sat a little test on this at the end of the course along with a practical test. We all did great and all achieved master shot, which is the best you can get !YAY!
We also started to go to Otmoor, which is a military range, it is great fun and we started training on the L81 A2 cadet target rifle, and then once we passed the training we got to shoot !YIPPIE! Soon after this Cadet Harris and I started the the training for the L98 A1 cadet GP rifle which looks like the SA80 but it has a cocking handle. |

The Air Cadets got me into shooting about a year ago with my fellow cadets at the time.
Four of us went shooting every Thursday at the local range in Wantage using an Air Rifle. We achieved master shot on the Air Rifle which is a big red badge and is the top achievement on this rifle.
We then went on to the number 8 rifle, which is a .22 calibre bullet, and is the smallest firearm rifle that cadets use. Following regular shooting evenings, using the No. 8 rifle, we all received our squadron marksman badge, this is a really good achievement for all of us.
The next rifle is the L81A2 Air Cadet target rifle and so far I have been shooting twice with this rifle. |
