This is what happened at the 2009 Wing Athletics. Squadrons from all over Thames Valley Wing turn up with 5 to 10 cadets depending on which events they are doing; 6 cadets represented 2410 squadron. If you win a silver or gold you then have the opportunity to represent the Wing at the Regional Athletics later in the year.

2410 took part in events such as discus, shot put, javelin, 100 metres and the 200 metres. When you compete in the events everyone cheers, it doesn’t matter if you come first, second, third or even last they will keep cheering! The atmosphere changes throughout the day, to start with it was quite and dull but as the day progresses everyone relaxes so it becomes a very lively place to be.

At the end of the day 2410 came away with:

1 Silver

3 Bronze

This is an excellent achievement, not just for the cadets who won them, but also for the squadron because we hadn’t competed since 2007.

At the beginning of December our squadron goes to RAF Brize Norton to compete in a ten-pin bowling competition. The winners will go and compete on behalf of Thames Valley Wing in the South West Region competition.

This is alot of fun and a good chance to meet loads of new people. I really enjoyed doing this last year (2007) and I'm sure I will enjoy it this year.

Wing Netball

Every year in November every wing in the region gets together at RAF Lynham to play netball and rugby. There are 6 wings in the South West Region. The staff also pick the people to represent the Region at Corps netball, this is the different regions in the whole of the A.T.C playing netball and rugby.

Thames Valley Wing, of which 2410 is part, came 6th in the netball. It is a good way to meet loads of people from different wings and overall have fun representing your wing.
